Ajman:  A 5-year-old boy fell to his death from the balcony of his ninth-floor flat  in Ajman on Tuesday.

Colonel Ali Saeed Al Matroushi, Director-General of Police Operations, told Gulf News, the Egyptian child  identified as Y.M.K., died after he slipped and fell from the chair he had upon located on the balcony.

Police said he was along alone at home and unsupervised as his mother and father took their daughter to the hospital for treatment when the incident happened.

The body, which was shifted to the Khalifa Hospital at around 1.45am then to  forensic laboratory, will be handed over to the parents after completing the formalities.

Col. Al Matroushi  appealed to parents to ensure that their children are always under supervision.

Col. Al Matroushi, said: "If investigation confirms negligence, the particular case would be referred to the court to ascertain whether or not the parents or guardians were to blame. All such cases are investigated by a public prosecutor and the nearby police station.”

According to medical records at the Khalifa Hospital in Ajman, at least two cases of child death or injury due to negligence are being reported weekly.
