Abu Dhabi: Members of the community are urged to take up brisk walking for its benefits in preventing heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and arteriosclerosis, the Medical Service Department at the Abu Dhabi Police said today (Saturday).

People are advised to walk 30 to 60 minutes daily, five days a week, according to the Medical Services Department.

“Exercise gives the body vitality and energy all day long, in addition to the much needed vitamin D that you get from exposing the skin to the sun, protecting your body against osteoporosis,” said Capt Mohammad Rashid Al Mazroui, general physician from the Medical Services Department at the Abu Dhabi Police.

Capt Al Mazroui added: “Exercise is a positive, healthy behaviour that will help improve lifestyle and build a healthy body. Brisk walking does not require big effort and is suitable for people of all ages, both children and adults. Having better health yields a better mental health status and productivity which, in turn, improves the quality of life. We all seek good health and fitness; therefore we need to exercise, each based on their individual and physical capacities.”
