Manama: Bahrain’s Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa has warned against complacency towards schemes plotted by subversive groups targeting Bahrain.

Such terrorist groups attempt to terrorise the population and stir people’s emotions by inciting sedition in order to stall Bahrain’s development and progress, Prince Khalifa said as he received citizens.

The groups that the premier did not name raised political issues and concocted bogus crises as a way to disrupt priorities and reduce the focus on the development of the country, the prosperity of the economy and better services for the people, he said.

He warned that even though the government had foiled the plots targeting the nation through a robust show of national unity and cohesion, the attempts are continuing.

“We should not rule out or be surprised by their negative intentions and their readiness to seize new occasions for a repeat of their behaviour,” he said, the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported on Monday.

“Bahrain is faring well and it needs your strong stance. We need to be closely together to preserve our achievements, protect its stability and reinforce its security. The road ahead is long and we will take it together. We will certainly reach our goals together because we are fully determined to do it. Our objective is a prosperous country in which people enjoy security and live in dignity,” he said.

Prince Khalifa said that the fast-paced developments in the region required high levels of vigilance and awareness among the people and a greater focus on the nation-building process.

“We must not allow politics to take our minds off developing the economy and we must not give any space to the groups that try to spread fear and horror in the hearts of people through acts of terrorism and sabotage. We must deny them the occasion to achieve their goals. This must be done for the sake of the present and future generations,” he said.

Prince Khalifa, a strong supporter of the Gulf union, said that the Gulf and Arab countries should draw lessons from the events around them and work on consolidating their relations in order to create a strong common front against plots and schemes to divide the region.
