Dubai: The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) in Dubai received a Dh3 million donation towards its humanitarian Family Village project, that is said to be the first facility in Dubai for the care of orphans and underprivileged children.

The money was donated by Emirati businessman Salem Ahmad Al Mousa.

Tayeb Al Rais, Secretary-General of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation in Dubai, said the money will cover the total cost of constructing a residential building in the village that will be named after Al Mousa.

“The humane gesture reflects his [Al Mousa’s] enthusiasm to help achieve greater integration and empower orphans and less privileged children to become productive and active members in our society,” he said.

The Family Village is an initiative by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The village will be located in Al Warqa’a 3, and will include about 16 villas. It will also include an administration building, clinics and medical facilities for emergencies, a nursery, a kindergarten and recreational facilities.

AMAF will provide a real home for orphans with family stability with full-time mothers to give them love and care. Each will have a family unit comprising “siblings” and a “mother” as well as all necessary amenities. Additionally, ”aunts” or helpers will be a part of the children’s daily lives as well as a “grandmother” to oversee the day-to-day running of the village.

People can donate to the Family Village project through SMS. Send a text message to 7710 to donate Dh10, 7750 to donate Dh50 or 3100 to donate Dh100.

Al Mousa urged the community to support such projects. “Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) always taught us to support and care for orphans and respond to the needy in our community.”
