Mythbusters hosts Jamie and Adam continue to challenge more myths in their sixth series.
The sixth season of Mythbusters has already started. More tall tales and urban legends are there to be busted or confirmed. For those who don't know the show yet, Mythbusters is the job of special-effects experts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman who every episode take on three myths and use science to differentiate between reality and fiction. Questions like "Can an airplane be affected by electronic devices" or "Can human voice shatter glass" are the type of queries that Adam and Jamie like to explore.
The mythbusters have spent their life collecting new skills to finally specialise in the Special and Visual Effects Industry.
Both model-makers, they continuously try to find an answer
to the myths and legends around them. But from where do they get the inspiration for these myths? The mythbusters tell us that their work is definitely all good team effort. They have a group of researchers and producers that is constantly at work, bringing out new material. They are also helped by their loyal fans who provide them with myths and legends that work really well.
Sometimes the inspiration comes from daily life. Adam tells us of an episode inspired by a newspaper article about a man trying to swim in syrup. The second he saw it, Adam thought that was something they could try on the show, and so he did. Along with Jamie he started collecting as much information as he could on the fascinating myth and shot the story. "Each one of us has some areas of interest and these are the things we watch out for," says Adam. "What Adam and I do, says Jamie , "is not only to add the technical expertise that allows us to actually deal with these things, but also put in some innate curiosity that we have. I think that flavours up the programme a great deal."
In this sixth series, Jamie and Adam anticipate some of the new exciting myths they would like to challenge. Adam talks about a myth which says that when you fire a bullet exactly parallel to the ground and you drop a bullet at the exact time you fire it, both bullets will hit the ground at the same time. "Jamie and I have figured out a methodology for actually doing it full sized, full scale with real bullets and I'm thrilled about it," says Adam.
Another one is the Da Vinci's helicopter, an old manpowered chopper. Jamie and Adam will challenge themselves to fly the odd helicopter. If they do, they will be the first ones to have made a human powered helicopter get off the ground.
Every experiment is for the mythbusters a lesson to learn. "The time you really feel you've learnt something is when things don't go as planned and expected. Finding out we are wrong is one of the best parts about doing the show," say the mythbusters.
If you have any special myths you would like to bust just post your suggestion on the message board on the Mythbusters website: http://dsc.discovery.com.
The truth will be revealed!
