Dubai: A calligraphy exhibition in celebration of the birth of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) has opened to the public at the Farjam Collection at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
The exhibition, which will run until February 8, is a collaborative effort of the Farjam Collection and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development. Divided in two sections, the exhibition features antique pieces from Dr Farhad Farjam's personal collection and contemporary pieces made by Iranian calligrapher Amir Ahmad Falsafi.
"In the Farjam collection portion, we have displayed artworks from different parts of the Islamic world, from China to the Ottoman Empire. Some of the items on exhibit are over a thousand years old and they each are related to, or in praise of, the Prophet," Amir Arvand, curator of the exhibition, told Gulf News.
Some 42 classic and modern calligraphic pieces in honour of the Prophet and taken from Falsafi's extensive collection have been on display for the first time here in Dubai.
"I would like to express my deep gratitude towards the UAE's Minister of Culture, Mr Abdul Rahman Al Owais, for his cooperation and kindness in holding Mohammadiat Rasulollah's exhibition. I would also wish to show my appreciation to Dr Farhad Farjam and Farjam galleryfor all their work with regard to this event," Falsafi said.
