Dubai: Echo and The Bunnymen have joined the unfortunate line-up of bands dropping out of this weekend’s Dubai Sound City festival.
The synth-rockers, who were to headline tonight’s line-up, have not travelled to the UAE and have produced “a doctor’s note” according to a spokesperson for one of the organisers of the event, New Dawn.
Echo and The Bunnymen join De La Soul, The Dirty Skirts and Bloc Party in pulling out of the event at the last minute. Orgnanisers say De La Soul pulled out for personal reasons, while South African band Dirty Skirts could not secure visas and British indie rockers Bloc Party, who were supposed to DJ a set at Chi@ The Lodge on Friday night, also cited medical reasons.
In a statement, New Dawn called the issues “teething problems”.
“We understand that people will obviously be disappointed, but we have had a fantastic response to the bands that have played on site and are expecting our biggest crowd yet tonight.”
Tonight’s headline act will now be Welsh band Super Furry Animals.
