Together through life
Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan's musical genius is unmatched, so when his latest studio album Together Through Life came out, expectations were naturally quite high. We're not saying that the album is a general let down, but coming from Dylan (the man who recently produced Modern Times) we were a tad disappointed. Nevertheless consolation does come from the fact that the album has a distinct Dylan touch. Recorded late last year and featuring ten new songs, the album is said to have been inspired by the '50s recordings from the Chess and Sun labels. Trust the bluesman to go back to his old roots. Life Is Hard is the most notable of all songs. Keeping in mind Dylan's songwriting style, this track is very touching. The album isn't as revolutionary as anything the musician has done before, but for his die-hard fans it's definitely worth a listen.

Roadsinger
Cat Stevens
Whether you call him Yusuf or Cat, a gifted musician by any other name would still sound as sweet. After a long hiatus Yusuf Islam is back with a vengeance and Roadsinger, in the musician's own words, certainly "warms the heart". The album retains the mellow touch that was the essence of Islam's previous work. Roadsinger brings back the Cat Stevens of yore and is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Human
Brandy

With the release of Human, Brandy has promised to show us a side that we have never seen before. And yet the album doesn't quite match the standards of 1998's Never Say Never. But at the same time, as an R&B offering it doesn't dissapoint. The title track Human is undeniably the best on the album and in it Brandy sings from the heart. Great album or not, it's good to have Brandy back on the scene!

Fantasy Ride
Ciara

The multi-platinum star's third album consolidates her position as a super performer, but don't compare it to her other two offerings; they were better. The dance driven beats are this album's strength, but overall it seems rushed. Of all the tracks, Keep Dancin' on Me is a sure winner. It sounds smooth and lays a lot of emphasis on her strong vocals. But she could have done without the tonnes of guest performances!
