Ash you like it

Expect a good mix of Ash Hamman's melodies and charity at The Address November 26

Last updated:

Abdul Sammir Hamman, or just Ash to his friends, is one of those artists who captures the appeal of all ages, genres and tastes.

Somehow capable of treading the fine line between the cutting-edge and classic, the singer, songwriter and dancer embraces pop and hip-hop while retaining his R&B roots.

With an astonishing voice and impeccable ear for melody, the 21-year-old brings a breath of fresh air to the UK music scene.

Something the people at Emirates Arthritis Foundation (EAF) hope he will also do for them as they try and appeal to a younger demographic.

The first step is Get Solarised with Hamman, an open-air party where he will perform.

The new brand ambassador for the EAF, Hamman says he is looking forward to his gig at The Address tonight.

The glamorous event not only offers guests the opportunity to meet the man himself, but also to snap up one of his personal items which will be auctioned off during the evening.

tabloid! caught up with Ash ahead of his gig.

What's your most memorable gig?

The Miss World beauty pageant is one of my biggest moments, with more than 750 million viewers. I had a range of emotions, including being scared and confused.

Do you hang out with any stars and celebs?

Well I've met Beyoncé, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Akon, Jon B, Faith Evans and so many more. I've spent some time with Will Smith — I must say he is truly funny and nice guy. Very humble.

Which celebs do you have on your mobile phone?

Wyclef, Sway, John Fashanu...

I lost my phone, but I'm sure that I'll recover the rest of my celeb contacts.

Tell us about your work with charity?

I am the ambassador for the Emirates Arthritis Foundation, helping them to raise awareness in the region about the disease, and hopefully making people more aware of how it affects people.

We especially hope young people will pay attention, as juvenile arthritis affects a strong proportion of all sufferers.
