Diigo is an interesting adaptation of something web browsers have done since there have been browsers: it bookmarks sites.

If that was all it did, this would be a short review, but this site adds the ability to share bookmarks, annotate web pages and share the information with other users.

For example, you find a story on a webpage that you want to share. You can highlight text on that page, write a few notes about it and add it to a list - favourite movies, for example - that you create. You can also, of course, bookmark the page so you can return to it later. When you save the bookmark, you'll have the option of sending it to your friends via email or Twitter.

You can keep you comments private or make them public. If you pick the latter, anybody visiting that site will be able to see that information, provided they are using Diigo too.

The way this works is through a combination of a browser sidebar, a toolbar and the diigo website. Once you register with the website, you will have the option of downloading the browser software. It's not required, but it makes using Diigo a lot easier.

You can find other friends using the Diigo site through the address book from your web-based email account, and the site also allows you to import your existing bookmarks from your browser.

Once everything is installed, buttons in the toolbar allow you to highlight, bookmark and comment. They can manage your information in the sidebar, which allows you to view your bookmarks or see any information Diigo has on a specific URL. You can tag your bookmarks with keywords, too, so you can search them later.

It took me only a few minutes to get everything working, but even after playing with Diigo for a few hours, I felt like I had only begun to get a grasp on everything it was capable of. There are a number of features I don't have space to detail here, such as messaging or web tracking, but it's there all the same.

For anyone who likes to surf the web and share what they find, it's a great site.
