A red-carpet premiere of Robin Hood will open the Cannes Film Festival this evening – but the film’s director Ridley Scott will not attend.
Hellomagazine.com reports that Scott won't be able to attend the gala because he recently underwent a knee replacement surgery. He announced the news with "sincere regret".
"I recently underwent knee replacement surgery and my recovery has been slower than I'd hoped. Truly, doctor's orders are the only thing that could keep me from being there," he said.
"My disappointment is tempered by the fact that (producer) Brian (Grazer), Russell Crowe, Cate (Blanchett) and the rest of the cast will be on hand to represent the film. I send them all my best wishes in opening this year's festival with our film," he added.
