This character's extended and conical head distinguishes him from other Jedis — and it also makes him into one of the more sought-after figures by Star Wars merchandise collectors. His name is Ki-Adi Mundi, a Jedi of the Cerean species.

There's a lot of information about Ki-Adi Mundi in the expanded universe (the Star Wars stories outside of the six George Lucas films). He also plays a key role in the animated series The Clone Wars. However, his participation in the "canon" Star Wars films is very small.

Ki-Adi Mundi was a Jedi Knight at the time of the battle of Naboo. At the time he was promoted to the Jedi Council, evidence of the high regard in which he was held by his fellow Jedis. He was known as a political idealist trained in Jedi philosophy.

During the conflicts that dominated the last years of the existence of the Republic, Ki-Adi avoided death on many occasions. One of the most important happened in the battle against the Geonosian and Separatist droid forces, when many Jedis were killed trying to defeat the Separatist droid army.

Later, he travelled to the Hypori planet, where General Grievous was decimating the armies of the Galactic Republic. After the defeat of most of the Jedi Knights that had accompanied him, Ki-Adi Mundi had to stand alone against General Grievous until a commando of Arc Troopers could rescue him.

Ki-Adi Mundi's death serves as an example of the shocking genocide of the Jedi. His death come at the hands of his own clone soldiers on Mygeeto planet after Order 66 was issued by Darth Sidious. This order to the Republic army was to avoid a rebellion of the Jedi which could give them power over Senator Palpatine (Darth Sidious). Its reading was precise: all Jedi were enemies of the Republic and had to be eliminated.

Interestingly, because his race (Cerean) obliged him to have a wife and children, Ki-Adi Mundi is the only Jedi who was allowed to be married. Other Jedis subscribed to the Jedi code, which did not permit them to be in love. It is for this reason that Anakin Skywalker has to marry Padmé in secret — and as it was his love that finally made him vulnerable to the Dark side, the rule is understandable.
