The Unborn is an engaging movie. Thankfully, there are none of the blood-drenched scenes with limbs being torn apart that fill most movies of this genre.

The Unborn

Odette Yustman, Gary Oldman, Cam Gigandet, Meagan Good
Director: David S Goyer
Genre:Horror/Thriller
Rating: PG-13
The Unborn is an engaging movie. Thankfully, there are none of the blood-drenched scenes with limbs being torn apart that fill most movies of this genre. But there are moments when the sound effects intended to make you jump prove effective. Casey (Odette Yustman) is a young girl who is troubled by nightmares. Then we come to know that her twin, a boy, died in her mother's womb. Her twin, nicknamed Jumby, has been in limbo for too long and now wants to be born. Soon we meet a Holocaust survivor who seems to know everything about Casey. She tells her about Nazi experiments on twins during the Second World War and that "it has fallen on you to finish what began in Auschwitz". Can Casey do it?

Baler
Cast: Jericho Rosales, Anne Curtis
Director: Mark Meily
Genre: Romance
Rating: PG12
Baler is a tragic love story set against the 1898 battle between a small battalion of the Spanish military and the Filipino freedom fighters, a clash that is popularly known as the Siege of Baler.

The protagonists are a young Filipina Feliza Reyes (Anne Curtis) and Celso Resurrecion (Jericho Rosales), a Spanish-Filipino soldier who's fighting for Spain. Feliza is the daughter of Daniel (Phillip Salvador), a member of the rebel movement, who seeks to wipe out the Spanish soldiers stationed in Baler. He hates Celso because he serves the enemies and not the freedom struggle. While Baler is a story of conflict and betrayal, it is also a story of courage, patriotism and love. The DVD comes with a host of special features such as behind-the-scenes snippets and bloopers. There is an interesting featurette on the history of the battle, a short film on how the historical church of Baler was recreated for the film and a music video of the theme song by Sarah Geronimo.

Cocaine Cowboys 2
Cast:
Charles Cosby, Jorge Ayala, Will Collins, Luis Casuso
Director: Billy Corben
Genre: Documentary
Rating: R18
She was known as "Godmother Cocaine" while he was a mere dealer. But a fan letter later, they struck up a friendship that would change his life completely. It's this thrilling real-life story, revisited through the eyes of the dealer himself Charles Anthony Cosby that makes up this documentary.

Cosby moved to the top of the drug trade because of his association with Griselda Blanco. Known for her fiery temper and strong hold in the white powder business, she fell for the dealer while serving time in prison. Blanco was nicknamed the "black widow" for striking out at former-husbands or boyfriends, which is why Cosby's association was looked upon with scrutiny.

Cosby's accented narrative is tough to comprehend, but the sleek shots and animation add an interesting touch. A collage of old photographs and tid-bits from other associates makes this DVD a worthy pick.
