Officials of the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) recently returned from a successful outreach tour which saw them create relationships with prominent studios, festivals and marketing executives in North America.

First stop was the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), one of the most prestigious in the world, which yearly premieres latest offerings from the biggest names in film.

Bold films

Following TIFF, the Dubai International Film Festival team, headed by Abdulhamid Juma, hosted numerous international studio and marketing executives at a reception in Los Angeles.

Guests included producer Martha De Laurentiis of De Laurentiis productions, Gary Walters of Bold Films, Tomas Jegeus, co-president of Theatrical Distribution, Twentieth Century Fox International, and Janet Hill, executive vice-president of Corporate Communications for Paramount Pictures.

Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman of DIFF, said, "DIFF received a warm welcome in LA recently, with several major studios keen on building relations with Dubai and the Dubai International Film Festival. We feel encouraged and certain that these associations will further help the festival link the Arab world with the Western world. Moreover, through the presence of Dubai Studio City we are heading towards the creation of a strong film industry in Dubai."

Show case

DIFF aims to showcase the best of Arab cinema from around the world to a global audience by fostering relations with key international film festivals and relevant industry executives.

Meetings were held with major industry players such as Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Arc Light Films, New Line International, and Miramax.
