Mohit Suri is set to wield the megaphone for the follow-up to the 1990 film Aashiqui and the director says he now plans to rope in new faces for it.
Unlike the original, the story of Aashiqui 2 will be set in modern times, Suri said.
"It's been 20 years for that film. So, obviously now I will have to upgrade this story. It will be the same realistic love story, but with a modern theme," Suri said.
Aashiqui won critical accolades after its release at the time. It also catapulted the careers of lead actors Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, who ventured into Bollywood with this film.
"I will cast fresh faces with a new boy and a new girl," said Suri.
Producer Mukesh Bhatt said: "It is neither a sequel nor a remake. It can be [called] the musical series of Aashiqui — a new generation is making this film."
