Comedy of numbers

Saas Bahu Aur Sensex may not be the most important film in Bollywood, but for Hollywood studio giants Warner Bros. this is a crucial film as it marks their foray into Bollywood.
Instead of opting for big stars and lavish production, Warner Bros. have chosen a sensible script with non-commercial actors Tanushree Dutta, Ankur Khanna and Masumeh Makhija in the leads. The film is jointly produced by PLA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, the makers of yesteryear hits such as Khatta Meetha, Chashme Buddoor, Jalwa and Hero Hiralal.
Young stars
Dutta will be seen as Nithya Sen, a character that offers more scope to showcase her acting skills rather than her normal glamorous, bimbette roles.
Makhija, last seen in Dus Kahaniyan is excited about this film. "Saas Bahu Aur Sensex is a comedy based on the current financial scenario of India and also has a lot of saas (mother-in-law) and bahu (daughter-in-law) elements," she says.
Makhija earlier did a stint on television, but surprisingly was never part of the popular family sagas portrayed in Indian soaps. "I enjoyed doing work on television, but the concept of saas-bahu sagas didn't suit my sensibilities and moreover I wanted to concentrate on film roles. After Saas Bahu Aur Sensex, I am looking forward to Sanjay Gupta's Alibaug where I play an alcoholic," says the actress.
Saas Bahu Aur Sensex is also an extremely important film for the leading man Khanna, who was lost in the earlier multi-starrers such as Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota and Sirf.
Return of Farooq
The bunch of young stars will be supported by experienced actors such as yesteryear star Farooq Sheikh, Kiron Kher and Lilette Dubey. Sheikh returns to the silver screen after a hiatus of more than a decade. In recent years, Sheikh was seen on the small screen hosting celebrity shows.
Family affair
Saas Bahu Aur Sensex is written and directed by Shona Urvashi, who incidentally is Makhija's sister. Urvashi made her directorial debut with her home production Chupke Se that also launched Makhija's film career.
PLA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd is entirely run by their parents with their mother in the producer's chair while their father takes care of the production activities.
