More than 1,500 people dressed to impress for the gala opening of the first Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF).

At the strictly black-tie event, couples, families and friends joined stars from all over the world to watch the regional
premiere of BAFTA Award-winning director Joe Wright's Atonement, starring Keira Knightley.

Famous faces

Famous faces from Bollywood, including Irfan Khan, Dia Mirza, Shiney Ahuja and Konkona Sen graced the freshly-laid red carpet at the impressive Emirates Palace Hotel, in Abu Dhabi, where the film festival is taking place.

Egyptian actress Dalya Al Behery caused quite a stir as she made her way along the line of reporters, television crews and photographers.

Stunning

Dressed in a stunning maroon gown, the young actress smiled for the cameras before making her way into the theatre.

Director Jennifer Needleman (I Love Hip Hop in Morocco) made an appearance along with festival director Jon Fitzgerald and executive director Nashwa Al Ruwaini.

The screening was followed by a lavish terrace reception for all guests including drinks, canapés, entertainment and
fireworks.

MEIFF runs until Friday and all tickets for screenings are complimentary. For more information and to reserve tickets visit www.meiff.com
