Bollywood stars Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor (not related) will be in Dubai on Tuesday to promote their forthcoming film Haider, the Bollywood version of Shakespearean tragedy Hamlet.
Director Vishal Bharadwaj, who gave us Bollywood’s crackling version of Othello with Omkara, and Macbeth with gangster-drama Maqbool, will also accompany them to talk up his film, releasing in the UAE on October 2.
According to local organiser Rashid Saeed of Essar Events, the stars will not visit a local mall, as is the norm for UAE press junkets, and will instead concentrate on media interactions.
However, there will be a meet-and-greet session for select fans.
Produced by UTV Disney, Haider is set in Kashmir and will see the erratic Prince Of Denmark portrayed as a philosophy student from Kashmir who returns home to find his mother (Tabu) in a relationship with another man following his father’s disappearance. The trailer for this dark drama is already creating ripples in Bollywood with Kapoor, Bollywood’s go-to hero for college student roles, chopping off his shiny hair.
“I believe in the script and have completely surrendered to Vishal sir’s vision on my character and my look,” said Kapoor in an earlier interview with tabloid!.
“As actors we should be willing to alter our physical appearance. In Hollywood, stars like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise have done it, so why shouldn’t we Bollywood heroes? My idea is to experiment with as many good roles as I can get in my career,” he added. For meet and greet, contact 056-9373571.
