When Katie Price split from Peter Andre earlier this year, the glamour model was reported to be concerned about her £46 million (Dh281 million) fortune.
But the singer has revealed that she had little cause for concern because before they married, he suggested they sign a pre-nuptial agreement — only to be berated by her in a "screaming row".
In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday's Live magazine, the 36-year-old has disclosed that his ex-wife was furious with him for simply making the suggestion.
Although Andre had a successful pop career before they met, his personal wealth was a fraction of the model's, who was already a multi-millionaire when they married at Highclere Castle, Berkshire, UK, in 2005.
He said: "When we decided to marry, I sat in a lawyer's office with Kate having a screaming row because I was insisting on a pre-nuptial agreement. I didn't want a penny of her money and still don't. She was screaming because she thought it meant I wasn't committing to her."
He believed the pre-nuptial would show he was not after her money. "I was upset that she didn't get that what I was trying to say was that this was about love, not money," he added.
The couple, who had two children together, split in May and their divorce was finalised on September 8.
The singer insisted that he wanted nothing from his failed marriage except his cars and the couple's dogs.
Andre said: "The hardest thing for me... was not walking away from Kate but picking up the phone to tell my parents. I felt like I'd failed. I'd been brought up in a faith that didn't acknowledge divorce unless for extreme reasons."
He added: "I haven't slept with any woman since Kate. I'm not ready and it's not right. I do want a relationship at some stage but you can't just fling yourself into that sort of situation. That's madness."
The couple met up again last week for the first time in months after Andre dashed to East Surrey Hospital where Price's disabled eight-year-old son Harvey had been admitted with breathing difficulties. The boy has now been discharged.
The couple had met in Australia on the set of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! as Andre attempted to restart his singing career. He had been successful in the early '90s but suffered psychological problems when his popularity waned.
"I couldn't cope. I ended up checking myself into a psychiatric ward in New York," he told Live magazine.
"It was a really bad time."
