An array of stars dazzled on the 2012 red carpet in gleaming white gowns, covering every fashion base from innocence personified to diva-like and daring.

Leading the Charge of the White Brigade was Milla Jovovich in a stunning one shouldered sequinned couture piece by Elie Saab, followed by Jennifer Lopez, who showed off her incredible body and plenty of décolletage in a plunge neck gown with daring low back and cutaway detail by Zuhair Murad.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara stuck with her fave fashion house, Givenchy, showing off her tiny frame in a architectural couture piece by Creative Director Riccardo Tisci; E! presenter Giuliana Rancic looked amazing (bar her rubbish hairdo) in a lavishly beaded fishtail gown by Tony Ward Couture, while Director Li Bingbing rocked the heck out of her laser cut, snow-white strapless Georges Chakra Couture number.

Best Supporting Actress winner Octavia Spencer picked up her first Oscar for her role in The Help wearing another supremely flattering gown by her red carpet go-to designer, Tadashi Shoji, while The Descendants rising fashion starlet Shailene Woodley took the demure route in a long sleeved Valentino Couture gown with cute embroidered detailing.

But it was Gwyneth Paltrow in her spectacularly simple but ultra-dramatic white gown with matching floor length cape by A-List fave, Tom Ford, who totally rocked our world. Elegant, sophisticated and heart-stoppingly beautiful, it’s quite possibly the best we’ve ever seen her look on Oscar night. White on, ladies!
