How many music directors would venture into a completely new field, when they are well entrenched in their own sphere?
Vijay Antony would.
The composer — whose work includes songs for hit Tamil films such as Kadhalil Vizhunthen, Ninaithale Innikkum and Vettaikkaran — chose to don the grease paint in 2012 for a romantic thriller, Naan.
Antony’s role as a psychopathic killer was much appreciated and Naan was a hit.
Antony returns with another Tamil film, Salim. He plays the title role, a polite and quiet doctor who suddenly turns violent, and is paired opposite Aksha Pardasany.
According to director N.V. Nirmal Kumar, this is an action thriller.
While the title might lead one to wonder whether this is a sequel to Naan, where Antony’s character was also called Salim, he clarifies that this film is of a different genre and not a sequel.
“Salim brings out Vijay Antony as a mass hero,” says Kumar, who is going solo now after having assisted directors S.A. Chandrashekar and Bharati Raja. “This film reflects some happenings in society.”
Shot in Chennai, Pondicherry and Rameshwaram, Salim is produced jointly by Studio 9 Production, Sri Green Productions and Vijay Antony Film Corporation.
Not one to let go of his first love, Antony has scored music for the film. Ganesh Chandra has handled the camera.
