Jean Markose is no stranger to radio listeners of Dubai. The RJ, who hosts popular talk shows on film, eventually attained his dream with the release of Angels, his directorial debut in Malayalam, on November 28 in Kerala.
Featuring Indrajith, director-actor Joy Mathews and Dubai resident Asha Sharath (of Drishyam fame), Angels is an investigative thriller.
“Indrajit plays Haider, a police officer. Joy Mathews is a priest, Father Verghese Punyalan. Asha plays Haritha Menon, a television producer and a journalist.”
The three characters meet. Scripted by Markose in association with Toni Tomy, Angels was shot in Hyderabad and Trivandrum.
“The film focuses on the strength of the media in bringing out into the open a hidden truth,” added this film buff who has a large collection of film magazines that he has been gathering since his school days.
A Quentin Tarantino fan, Markose cherished dreams of directing a film. A newspaper report sparked the idea and Angels got rolling with Indrajith’s support. Now, he’s working on his next script.
On Mathews’ role, Markose added: “Father Verghese is not your conventional priest. There are dark shades to his character. Despite no references to such a role, Mathews ettan [brother] has done a brilliant job.”
Praising Sharath’s performance, Markose said: “She is amazing as Haritha Menon. It is a totally different character from Nandini, her last role in Varsham [where she is a homemaker and paired opposite Mammootty].”
Angels is produced by UAE residents Linu Isaac, Hisham Basheer, Saju Azad and Maya Kartha. Jakes Bejoy has scored music. Check out Ee Mizhiyimakal sung by Indrajith for the film. Sujith Sarang is the cinematographer.
