Mumbai, Jan 31 (IANS) Vidya Balan finds it “sweet” on producer Dia Mirza’s part to question why the actress’ performance in Bobby Jasoos was not nominated for any leading film awards. However, the National Award winner says she has no regrets about it.
Balan’s 2014 film Bobby Jasoos received a fair response from the audience and critics, but it failed to make a cut in all the major awards, including at the 60th Filmfare Awards, which were held on Saturday night.
Mirza has expressed her disapproval in a series of tweets.
Dia tweeted: “Articles, reviews stated that her performance was excellent. But when it came to nominations she was completely ignored. Why? #VidyaBalan.
“I have always celebrated the achievements of my industry/colleagues and I will continue to. But I ask, why has #VidyaBalan been ignored?”
Asked about the comment ahead of the Filmfare Awards, Balan said: “Actually, [it was] so sweet of her [Dia Mirza] to say that. It’s our film, obviously we feel bad. We feel we should get nominated ... but, I think there is a jury who decided on the nominations and we should respect that.
“It’s good to know that there is so much good work happening that they are finding it difficult to choose the nominations. I’ve no regrets about not being nominated. I’ll be there [at the 60th Filmfare Awards night] to cheer my fraternity.”
On the film front, Balan will be next seen in Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani, which also stars Emraan Hashmi and Rajkummar Rao in key roles and has just wrapped shooting.
Mahesh Bhatt, who has written the love story, says it will focus on the life of a traditional Indian woman. Bhatt, 65, said Balan and Hashmi, who are reuniting on-screen after The Dirty Picture and Ghanchakkar, have done a fabulous job in the film.
“Vidya is outstanding in the film. It is inspired by what I saw in my step-mother. It is not based on her life but comes from an understanding that I saw in her life. I decided to inject it into the story,” Bhatt told PTI in an interview.
“Hamari Adhuri Kahani is a very emotional perspective on a traditional Indian woman. She is your mangalsutra-wearing woman, who though works in a five star hotel as a florist, has still not gone out of that traditional space. I feel we have stopped looking at that woman. We are only looking at the urban women in our films,” he said.
