Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF) will screen a selection of films by celebrated French filmmaker Françcois Truffaut for the first time in the capital next month. The restored works of the Truffaut, who died in 1984 and led the France’s new-wave cinema movement, will be screening during the ten-day festival, which takes place from October 23 to November 1.
The selected titles include The 400 Blows (a semi-autobiographical childhood story of a troubled French youth who is misunderstood until he is placed in a juvenile detention centre), Jules and Jim (a love triangle), The Wild Child (story of a wolf boy), The Man Who Loved Women (a tale about an eccentric Casanova and Small Change ( a story about the resilience of children). Traffaut’s 1973 film Day For Night, which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language film, and The Last Metro, which was screened at Cannes earlier this year as a part of the Cannes Classics segment, will also be showcased.
“Few filmmakers have had as much impact on the art of cinema as Francois Truffaut. We want to give local audiences the chance to experience these great works of cinematic genius on the big screen to relive some of the magic that captivated movie-goers at the time and today, said Ali Al Jabri, director of Abu Dhabi Film Festival in a statement.
