'Comedy is no cakewalk'
Akshay Kumar talks about his comic caper Khatta Meetha releasing in the UAE this Thursday
What is your on-screen character Sachin Tichkule like?
Sachin is a road contractor who gets sucked into the world of corruption and starts bribing people to get his work done.
Have you ever bribed anyone?
Hmmm… Yes I have. It was a while back. I had to pay a bribe to get a car registration number.
What was it working with Trisha?
It was fantastic. Trisha is a huge superstar in the south. She's not new to filmmaking and has done an excellent job in the movie.
Why aren't you doing movies in other genres?
Just because I've been doing a lot of comedy, it doesn't mean I'm going to be stuck with one genre. I'm here to entertain and 90 per cent of my comedies have been major hits. But comedy is no cakewalk; it's very difficult to make people laugh. The audience is intelligent; you can't fool them. They know when something's really funny and when it's not.
Are you planning to be a full-time producer?
Khatta Meetha, Patiala House and Tees Maar Khan are my co-productions but I don't intend to become a full-time producer. I like challenges and trying out different things, but I can't really predict whether I'll get into direction, production or anything else for that matter.
