Lebanese singer Elissa says that she considers herself "the number one singer" and that she is satisfied with the sales of her newest album. The star hopes that her new album will be the number one selling album in the Middle East.
Elissa also snubbed superstar Amr Diab saying that her album sales will surely exceed those of Diab who in Elissa's opinion is a "second class singer." Elissa said that Diab is being sued in Madrid for copying the music of a Spanish singer. Meanwhile Elissa has begun recording her album which will be released by the end of this year.
Majestic trio
Three popular Arab singers, Wael Kfour, Najwa Karam and George Wassouf, just celebrated the success of their latest concert in Beirut.
The famous trio entertained the public with a performance which lasted until early morning.
The audience included prestigious guests from the political field as well as popular musicians and singers.
Before the performance, George Wassouf was mobbed by fans for pictures and autographs. He finally made it to the stage an hour and a half later.
Touched by luck
Nobody would say no if asked to sing for a soundtrack that was less than one minute for the whopping amount of Dh79,000. This time, luck blessed Lebanese artist Diana Haddad, who was chosen to sing the introduction to the TV drama series Lanat Imraah (Woman's curse) starring Bahraini actress Zainab Al Askhari. The song for the new drama series was written by Bahraini poet Ali Al Sharqawi and composed by Anwar Al Nashman.
A quiet affair
Famous Syrian actress Jomanah Murad, who will play the role of Sharifa in the Syrian Ramadan series Bab Al Hara, has denied that she has kept her wedding a secret and states that the ceremony was just "quiet."
Jomanah said that her marriage to a Syrian businessman was not gossip material. For this reason, she said she preferred a small ceremony with family and friends, away from the public eye.
"There is a big difference between getting married in secrecy and getting married quietly," says Jomanah. The actress said she is very happy with her husband and believes that her personal life should not interfere with her career.
A new role for Haifa
For the first time in her career, singer Haifa Wehbe has been chosen to play the leading role in Khaled Yousef's latest film Dukan Shahata (Shahatah's Market).
The Egyptian director, who announced his decision to the press, was immediately criticised for giving the leading role to the inexperienced Haifa.
However, Khaled defended his choice and said, "As a director I am free to make my own choices, and an actor should not be criticised before he or she has acted."
Haifa is now in Cairo to begin filming her scenes.
The film will also star actors Amro Saed, Ghada Abed Al Razaq and Omar Abed Al Jalil.
