After Damaal Dumeel, a thriller that released in India last week, another Tamil thriller is gearing up for release this week. The similarities don’t just end there.

Ennamo Nadakkudhu is also a debut director’s film and the story is centred on the events in an ordinary man’s life over one day.

Directed by Rajapandi, Ennamo Nadakkudhu features Vijay Vasanth in the lead role. “Vijay plays a small contractor who markets cinema posters,” says Rajapandi. “He is an ordinary man, who for the sake of the woman he loves, finds himself caught between two rivals.”

Playing the two rivals are Prabhu Ganesan, as an NRI from Singapore, and Malayalam actor Rahman, as a politician.

Vasanth, the son of H. Vasanthkumar, of the noted ‘Vasanth and Co,’ chain of stores in Tamil Nadu, entered films accidentally.

A post-graduate in international business administration from London, Vasanth was assisting his father’s business when a chance meeting with director Venkat Prabhu triggered his cinematic journey with Chennai 600028.

Ten-films-old now, Vasanth’s last outing onscreen as hero was Tamil film Mathil Mel Poonai.

“Rajapandi had approached me for this film some years ago, but I was not sure if I could do action sequences then.” The second time the offer came his way, Vasanth was ready.

“I trained under a professional for action scenes and also did a workshop with Koothupattarai [a prominent theatre group in Chennai],” Vasanth added.

Mahima Nambiar plays his lover. Other members of the cast include Saranya and Thambi Ramaiah.

“For Rahman, this is a big role in Tamil after Singham 2 and he has done a brilliant job,” Rajapandi said.

Ennamo Nadakkudhu is produced by Vinoth Kumar. Music is scored by Premji Amaran. Cinematography is by A. Venkatesh.
