Why Letters To Juliet?
It's funny; it's not the type of movie I would normally want to do as it's pretty broad and light. But it became so much more for me, especially after Vanessa Redgrave signed on... though it's just a romantic movie."
Any expectations…
I stopped having expectations.
Why do you say that?
Heartbreak and disappointment… I'm intimidated much of the time. And I've learnt that even a tiny spark of expectation is so wrong. You just have to accept whatever it is. I just don't want to be intimidated. It hinders me so much. So I don't expect anything and hence don't feel hindrance in doing what I want.
What was it like filming in Italy?
Italians are just cool and warm. They just want to feed you! And it was a funny thing because I just wanted to eat! So it was a good match for me!
Your favourite meal in Italy?
Don't feel gross ... rabbit. It was ridiculous. I can't wait to eat it again. Oxtail too, another really good meat. And oxtail ragout. Mmmm!
Is any hostility between Americans and Brits the way it has been portrayed in the film?
I don't know! Not really. I certainly don't have any issues.
What films inspire you?
Titanic. I'm gonna just start naming all the Leo [Leonardo DiCaprio] movies! I grew up with them… they were my life. Leonardo was the ultimate actor. That was the foundation of everything that I've learnt.
Gael García Bernal is great in this movie...
He can do anything. He can sit on a toilet and you can watch him and it's fascinating. I'm serious! And I got to work with him, that is an absolute pleasure.
