Hunar Gallery Organises Art Exhibition to Support 'Ameera Fund’ For Cancer Patients

Sharjah: Hunar Gallery, a Dubai-based contemporary art space that is hosting an exhibition at Abu Dhabi Art, will donate 30 per cent of proceeds from the sale of artworks on display to the newly launched Ameera Fund that supports cancer patients worldwide.

The exhibition, held with the participation of Emirati artists, is being hosted in memory of the late Ameera Bin Karam and in celebration of her inspiring humanitarian and charitable role.

Bin Karam and her mother and sister died in October after a fire engulfed their Sharjah home. Bin Karam was the chairperson of Sharjah Business Women Council and the founding member and president of Friends of Cancer Patients.

The art gallery features the works of Emirati artist Abdul Qadir Al Rais, Dr Najat Makki, Abdul Rahim Salim, Saif Ali Al Sada and Emily Beljafla — each participating with three paintings that reveal their talents.

Reem Bin Karam, director of Sharjah Children Centres, said: “Art is the ultimate humanitarian discourse that allows us to express our feelings perfectly and I take this opportunity to thank Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for her initiative of launching the Ameera Fund to support cancer patients around the world. I pay tribute to all the efforts Her Highness is making in commemorating Ameera’s passion for doing good and for her dedication to charitable causes.”

She added that top artists in the UAE “have selflessly given the best and most beautiful of what they have to contribute to the treatment of cancer patients and we can’t thank them enough for this gesture”.

Artist Al Rais said: “The legacy of good deeds left by the late Ameera Bin Karam encourages us as artists, as well as others who are able to contribute, to follow her footsteps.”

Dr Makki said: “Today we are supporting a noble and important humanitarian cause in a move that reflects the inherent form of art … For artists, there is nothing more beautiful than to see a painting contribute to a noble cause.”

Al Sada said engaging artists in charitable initiatives represents an important strand in humanitarian work in general. “By contributing to the Ameera Fund, each artist is helping to follow the humanitarian approach of goodness and love shown by Bin Karam,” he said.

Abu Dhabi Art runs till Saturday.
