Phnom Penh: Actress Mia Farrow has arrived in Cambodia for a banned ceremony to bring attention to the crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region, her group said on Saturday.
Farrow and other activists plan to hold a mock Olympic-torch lighting ceremony at a former Khmer Rouge prison on Sunday as part of her Darfur campaign.
The government is trying to prevent the actress and the activists from holding the ceremony because they had "a political agenda against China."
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith on Friday threatened to expel the activists and condemned the event as "insulting" to victims of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1970.
Farrow is working with US-based Dream for Darfur, which has called on China to use its influence to prod Sudan to stop abuses in Darfur.
The campaign aims to push China to pressure Sudan into ending the violence in Darfur, where at least 200,000 people have died in five years.
