Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will head to Dubai Opera from October 4-6, with five scheduled performances.
Having entertained an estimated 25 million people across 71 countries, the dance group will perform two diverse programmes of ballets at Dubai Opera, including Revelations, a 1960 American classic by choreographer and activist Alvin Ailey.
“Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s historic first visit to Dubai will extend an unparalleled legacy of extensive international tours by the Company, recognised as a vital American Cultural Ambassador to the World,” artistic director Robert Battle said in a statement.
Founded by Alvin Ailey in 1958, the New York City based dance company is renowned for revolutionising modern dance. The company uses the African-American cultural experience and the American modern dance tradition as a celebration of human spirit.
Tickets are priced from Dh250. Performances at 8pm, with special matinee showing on October 5 and 6 at 3pm as well.
