Dubai: The Al Habtoor Group has no links with the construction firm Al Habtoor Leighton Group, it said in a categorical statement.

It also said Habtoor Leighton is not one of its subsidiary companies nor is the Group involved in the company’s day-to-day operations.

“The Al Habtoor Group LLC’s core focus is on hospitality, automotive and real estate sectors, as well as car rental and education,” the statement added.

Habtoor Leighton was created from the erstwhile construction interests of Al Habtoor Group (Al Habtoor Engineering), which were merged with those of Gulf Leighton. This was effected in 2007.

Since then, the construction company has built a significant portfolio of high-wattage developments, including a new campus for Zayed University (which was completed in 2011) and the 6.5-kilometre expressway linking Abu Dhabi city with Yas Island.

The firm’s website also lists the Dh1.45 billion contract for the residential towers forming part of the Dh11 billion Al Habtoor City development on Shaikh Zayed Road.

The project mandate includes two 75-storey high-rises, another 52-storey tower and a seven-storey podium. It is due for completion this year, as per the information on the website.

On an adjacent site, the company is constructing a Dh1.9 billion hotel development.
