Actress Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira has made more than Rs160 million (Dh8.8 million) in its opening weekend in India.

“The film collected Rs6.20 crore [Rs62 million] on Sunday taking the total business to Rs16.65 crore,” read the statement.

Earlier it was reported that the film made Rs104.5 million in two days since its release in India on Friday.

“The film has collected Rs5.30 crore [Rs53 million] on day two. On the first day, the film collected Rs5.15 crore,” the statement had said.

Presented by Fox Star Studios and directed by filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss, Akira brought Sinha and Murugadoss together once again. He previously directed Sinha in the film Holiday, which was a success at the box office.

Akira sees Sinha’s character moving to Mumbai from Jodhpur, where she gets into a fight with goons from the college she enrols in. She then has to deal with the college goons, a corrupt policeman played by Anurag Kashyap and a policewoman played by Konkona Sen Sharma.
