Ajman: Four men were arrested on Monday in connection with the theft of handbags from women while they parked their cars, said an Ajman police official.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, said the Criminal Investigation Department formed a security team after receiving four complaints from women whose handbags were snatched while they had stopped their cars. Tips from the victims helped police identify the suspects and a trap was set to arrest them.

The suspects, all Asians, were arrested in Ajman. They used tricks to snatch the handbags and then flee the scene.

Police investigations revealed that the Asian snatchers were found to have a criminal record and had been arrested in a similar case.

The suspects have been referred to the public prosecution for further action.

Al Matroushi has urged community members, especially women, not to leave their belongings, whether it is handbags, phones or money, in places which encourage thieves to commit crimes.

He said that Ajman Police have a zero-tolerance policy towards any crime or illegal activity and are working very hard in order to raise the levels of security and safety by achieving the strategic objectives of the Ministry of the Interior.

He also called on owners of malls and supermarkets to employ skilled security guards and install surveillance cameras in all passages and floors to secure public and private property.

Members of the public can report crimes to Ajman Police by calling 999 or 06-7401616.
