Dubai: Ajman recorded a 20 per cent increase in both guest arrivals and tourism revenue in the first quarter of this year, according to a statement from the Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) on Tuesday.
From January to March 2016, the number of guests reached 142,404, while guest nights stood at 313,724.
The occupancy rate of hotel apartments touched 76 per cent in the first quarter, compared to 62.4 per cent in the same period in 2015.
Meanwhile, tourism revenue for the first three months of this year rose from Dh90 million to Dh108 million.
“The report for the first quarter of 2016 is the result of our effective promotional and marketing outreach to attract different segments of visitors to the emirate of Ajman. Our presence in different travel and tourism exhibitions and road shows has helped us a lot because we have seen remarkable interests from the industry when we presented to them what are available in Ajman in terms of attractions, accommodations and activities,” stated Faisal Al Nuaimi, general manager of ATDD.
Domestic tourism was the primary source of guests for Ajman hotels with 34,334 guests, followed by 28,228 guests from Asian and African countries, covering total guest nights of 60,190.
Guests from Europe reached 13,129 and delivered 56,585 guest nights.
Guests from Gulf region and other Arab nationals reached 26,315 and 23,885, respectively. Other guests who visited the emirate were from Europe, Russia and America.
In the first quarter of this year, there were 36 establishments, with 3,192 total rooms and units in Ajman.
