Ajman: Ajman Civil Defence has launched a unique drone equipped with four safety tubes to locate and rescue people drowning in Ajman waters.

The move comes in response to one death and 12 drowning cases which have occurred since the beginning of this year.

Colonel Nasser Rashid Al Zari, Head of Media and Public Relations Department at Ajman Civil Defence, said the drone, which will go into service next week, will be able to detect drowning cases through its cameras that can enlarge normal images by 38 times. It is equipped with a thermal sensor to make a full survey of beaches to look for people in distress.

The storm- and waterproof drone is not easily penetrated as it is provided with secret codes. It is equipped with two cameras. It also has four safety tubes, which are also equipped with cameras, that can be sent down by remote control at any time, Col Al Zari added.

He pointed out that the global response time for such incidents is eight minutes but the Ministry of Interior is determined to bring down that time to four minutes.

The drone is also equipped with a 3D camera. It will store all coordinates of buildings, houses and industrial faculties in an e-map in the operation room.

Col Al Zari noted that Ajman Civil Defence has already launched three drones to investigate any violations being committed or any illegal substances being produced.
