Abu Dhabi: Adnoc Distribution has launched an awareness drive to let people know about what it calls “the environmental benefits of the new high quality diesel product” produced by the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) and distributed by Adnoc Distribution’s service station network across the UAE.

The new low-sulphur diesel product is aimed at creating a cleaner environment and significantly improving public health while offering better performance for vehicle engines. Adnoc Distribution rolled out the product in the UAE market at the beginning of this July following a UAE Cabinet’s decision to standardise the specifications of diesel products in line with the updated guidelines of the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA).

The new product, which conforms to the European emission standards (EURO V), is said to offer tremendous benefits to vehicle and engine manufacturers by allowing mechanical components to work more efficiently. The company also says it also improves the durability of engines, and is compatible with vehicles that work both on old or new diesel products.

“At Adnoc Distribution, we recognise our responsibility to implement all measures and standards that achieve environmental sustainability and preservation in coordination with relevant stakeholders. By offering the new low-sulphur diesel product that conforms to the latest international standards, we stand by our commitment towards environmental protection and public safety,” Abdullah Salem Al Daheri, CEO of Adnoc Distribution, said.

Al said Jasem Ali Al Sayegh, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company, said: “Takreer has built new refining units as well as upgraded existing capacities to produce low-sulphur and environmentally-friendly diesel that contains less than 10 milligrams of sulphur per kilogram, in line with the specifications and guidelines announced by the UAE. in this regard. By introducing the new product into the UAE market, we have achieved another milestone by making the UAE the first country in the GCC and Middle East to switch to green diesel.”

The new diesel product contains less than 10 milligrams of sulphur per kilogram and has replaced the old product that contained more than 500 milligrams of sulphur per kilogram. This reduction in sulphur levels will significantly cut down carbon emissions from vehicles as well as the discharge of exhaust gases.
