Abu Dhabi An expert committee under the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has started inspecting school buses to ensure student safety.
The School Transport Executive Committee will conduct periodic field visits to inspect school transportation systems in public and private schools. The inspection campaign follows the tragic death of three-year-old Nizaha Aalaa in a locked school bus.
Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Edu-cation Council said in a statement that safety of pupils aboard school buses is a shared responsibility of government organizations, service providers, community members and parents.
While assuring parents that ADEC will effectively implement safety regulations in school transport, Dr. Qubaisi said it is important to raise safety awareness among school transport workers.
She also stressed the importance of educating children to be cautious and take care of their own safety.
Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols and the Chairman of the School Transport Executive Committee, called upon transport operators and supervisors to abide by the newly introduced school transport regulations.
He said safe school transport is a social responsibility, and called upon schools to appoint qualified and well-trained supervisors.
