Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has carried out an awareness campaign against illegal advertisements on the streets that distort the general appearance of the city.

The campaign in Baniyas East and West, Al Shamkha and Al Shawamekh started last month is continuing within the areas under Al Wathba Municipal Centre. The municipality issued 12 fines of Dh1,000 each to the offenders.

The campaign highlights the need to obtain the necessary permits from the municipality to place advertisements in public places.

The municipality urged the public not to place advertisements in public places. Each unlicensed advertiser is slapped with a fine of Dh1,000. If the offender does not pay fine within 30 days, the municipality shall refer the case to the public prosecution.

The municipality called on community members to adhere to the rules related to placing signboards and posters on streets with prior approval and removing them after the expiry of the permit period.
