Judging by the emptiness that was the Tokyo Motor Show, we were admittedly sceptical that the Dubai version would amount to anything different, i.e. anybody turning up.

We needn't have worried. Droves of manufacturers are packing their bags as you read, with Audi, Renault, BMW, Mini, Ford and Lexus all divulging secrets about their displays.

Munich is going all out with its new GT, X1, X5M, X6M, X5 10th anniversary edition, 760Li Individual as well as the Active Hybrids 7 and X6.

If Mini is more your bag, you'll be able to check out the Mayfair and Camden models and even have a go behind the wheel.

Audi is launching its A5 Sportback, starting at Dh179,900 for the 211bhp 2.0-litre quattro model, while Ford has answered our prayers too. The blue oval's display will include the 2010 Taurus, Lincoln MKT and best of all, the Raptor monster off-roader. We've already reported on Renault's participation, but apart from the new Clio and Megane Coupé, the carmaker will bring along a 1973 Berlinette racer, Megane Trophy car as well as the new, GCC-unique Fluence saloon.

While we won't be able to examine the new road-going Lexus LFA in detail, at least Toyota's luxury arm is treating us to the racecar that took part in the Nürburgring around-the-clock race. It will climb the show platform as it finished, complete with the insects, stone chips, torn rubber and brake dust.

We know what we're doing on December 16.
