Writer Sohaib Awan is hungry for more. A year after he came to Dubai to introduce his East-West blending coming book series ‘Jinnrise’, the entrepreneur and lawyer is releasing his first comic book series through his company Jabal Entertainment.
Called ‘Drawn’, the comic book, about a girl who discovers a magical world through henna art, was introduced at the Middle East Film & Comic Con on Friday. The story is written by Dubai-based writer Maey Al Shoush.
“It has that strong Middle Eastern connection, a woman as the protagonist and had that element of bridge that we are looking for,” said Awan, whose ‘Jinnrise’ is released by the renowned American company IDW Publishing, behind series such as ‘G.I. Joe’ and ‘Star Trek’.
“When Maey came to us with the story last year at the MEFCC, I loved the concept and had to get the story out. And a year later, here we are,” said Awan.
“It’s hard now to get people interested in reading from a young age. We need stories like these that transcend cultures and is relevant to people around the world.”
Now only a teaser, the first issue of ‘Drawn’ will be out later this year.
