It was less lights, camera and action and more mocktails, canapes and aching feet for a VIP crowd who turned out to catch a glimpse of Paris Hilton on Thursday night.

Kept waiting for more than three hours for the Hollywood hottie to arrive at Wafi City's Salam Stores, guests were confused when Hilton finally arrived but the cameras didn't.

Advertised as an event which would be filmed to be included as a segment of the heiress' show Paris Hilton Best Friend Forever Dubai, more than 200 people dressed to impress in the hope of five minutes of fame.

To her credit Hilton arrived and couldn't have apologised quicker saying she was upset she had kept people waiting for so long and it wasn't something she made a habit of.

"As you know we are in Dubai filming the latest season of my new BFF show," she said on a small podium stage as fans took pictures with cameras and phones from below.

"With so much going on, the technicial difficulties we face and the contestants we over-ran on set and that's why we are so late. I'm really very sorry. But now we can have some fun," she said.

With that the 28-year-old dressed in a mint green flowing gown and silver, crystal encrusted headpiece, headed over to her own collection of clothing in the store and looked at what was on offer.

A VIP area was next on the agenda where she met with a few privileged guests who had their pictures taken sitting alongside her.

The heiress posed happily, but hardly surprising since its rumoured that she was paid a handsome sum for her brief appearance.

Guests whispered figures of up to $100,000 but this figure could not be confirmed by a spokesperson for Salam.
