Little traders are selling home-made crafts and products at Modhesh Fun City.
To foster entrepreneurship skills among youngsters during the summer holidays, the Dubai Shopping Festival Office (DSFO) has allocated an area in Modhesh Fun City
(MFC) for children to sell their home-made crafts and products.
The Modhesh Little Traders Fair has children running 18 different stores where high quality and affordable goods are sold, say organisers.
Support
Part of the Dubai Summer Surprises 2008 “the initiative to establish a fair for young traders and business hopefuls fits our belief in the importance of rendering all possible
support for those students who sincerely want to make use of their leisure time in developing business skills," says Ebrahim Saleh, DSFO General Coordinator.
The DSFO provides all logistic and financial support to the children who are participating.
Among those participating in the fair is Farah Al Fard and her two sisters who all breed small furry pets.
“The project started as a simple hobby for nurturing rabbits and hamsters, and then we decided to develop this amateurish hobby into a business following the
encouragement we received from our families and people surrounding us," said Shaikh Saeed, one of the three owners of the project.
The trio also imports rabbits and hamsters from the Netherlands, with rabbits valued at between Dh150 to Dh500.
UAE national Mohammad Al Kaabi won the Best National Project Award at the 2008 Little Trader Competition that was organised by the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation. He says he is participating in the fair to showcase his products, which include posters, notebooks, cups and bracelets carrying images of the UAE
flag.
Other children's stands had souvenirs, women's accessories, wallets, beads, hats, T-shirts, calendars, medals and congratulation cards, and also edutainment products.
Paparazzi reception
Visitors to Dubai are being welcomed in a peculiar fashion at the Dubai International Airport this summer. The Paparazzi are an international troupe from Poland composed of
professional jugglers and comic actors and welcome visitors by recreating the flash photography of the 70s.
The performers interact with tourists and create a fun ambience with their sense of humour, often taking tourists by surprise. The Paparazzi are at the Dubai International
Airport daily from 5pm to 10pm until August 22.
Emirati culture showcase
Emirati Day, an exclusive evening of events and activities themed on the culture and traditions of the UAE, will be held today at Modhesh Fun City. UAE dignitaries, the DSS
2008 organising committee and Ebrahim Saleh, General Coordinator of the Dubai Shopping Festival, will be attending the event.
Activities start at 6:30pm at the MFC Management Office. For more information call 0502328028.
