A Barbiesque Dia Mirza, actor Akshay Kapoor, director Aishu Trika and photographer-turned-producer Subi Samuel were present at a press briefing ahead of the premiere of their film, Alag, at the IIFA weekend.

Exciting times

Introducing and sharing her experience of working on the film, Mirza said, "I'm so excited about this film. It's a different role and is the synergy of like-minded people - technicians, artists, producer and director - coming together."

Mirza also narrated the synopsis of the film at the briefing, which started almost an hour late.

Alag is about a man, who steps out of an extended period of isolation - a quarter of his lifetime - to discover that he has special powers.

The film traces the protagonist's journey in the real world and his challenge of figuring out how to use those powers in the most constructive manner.

Great risk for a young lad

On her co-star, Akshay Kapoor, for whom this is the second movie, Mirza said that he took a "great risk" in taking on the role.

"To shave off the head [sic], eyebrows and cut eyelashes is not an easy thing for a young, decent-looking actor so new in the industry," she said. She said Kapoor spent seven months in isolation to prepare for his role.

Lifetime role

Kapoor said he had visited Dubai when he was 6 and he was delighted to be here. "I'm so fortunate to have got this lifetime role so early in my career," he said.

At the "pre-movie screening," media persons were given the opportunity to watch a music video that featured popular Bollywood faces who lent their "support to the film".
