The Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (Getex) Autumn - Dubai, which opens this Tuesday, will give students a chance to meet more than 50 university representatives at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, in the World Trade Centre. Students can also attend seminars and forums. The fair comes to Dubai from Bahrain and will be held over three days.

"It offers an excellent opportunity for education and training providers to focus on their fall intake for the spring academic cycle, and for recruiters and employers wanting to bolster their human resource pool at a fraction of normal hiring and vetting costs," Anselm Godinho, managing director of organisers IC&E, told Notes.

The fair is different from that which took place in April in that it is more focused. "It focuses on enrolment for early 2009 (as opposed to enrolment for the regular September/October) academic cycle, so it is a smaller, more focused show," Godinho said.

Simultaneous events

As is usual at the fair, a series of seminars will be held to inform students about the regional and international higher education options available.

It is being held concurrently with the Oil and Gas Show (OGS) 2008, a cross-industry engineering event for oil, gas, electricity, water, instrumentation and automation.

"OGS 2008 offers unparalleled opportunities for universities to promote engineering and technical courses, and for engineering graduates to network with industry professionals, explore employment opportunities and choose career paths," Godinho told Notes.

"First and foremost, Getex Autumn is an opportunity for students to interact one-on-one with education providers to identify the right courses," he added. "The show will bridge industry and education, giving graduating students a chance to discuss project briefs, project challenges and solutions, potential career paths, industry trends, case studies and practical challenges with industry professionals."

"In a bid to bridge education and industry, we are holding the Adnoc Excellence in Engineering Forum, an event designed to get prominent private and public sector organisations involved in interacting with graduating students to discuss project briefs, challenges, potential career paths, industry trends, case studies and practical challenges faced by engineers every day," Godinho said.

Organisers are considering taking the exhibition to India in 2009. "We are also exploring the possibility of holding Getex events in other GCC countries," Godinho said.
