Harvard Medical School Dubai Centre (HMSDC) Institute for Postgraduate Education and Research in collaboration with the Sharjah Women's College (SWC) selected six UAE female students for a three-week training and observational scholarship at Harvard's affiliated hospitals in Boston, United States.
HMSDC is a member of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Centre, part of Dubai Healthcare City, a member of Tatweer.
The HMSDC observership programme allowed the senior students to be trained in some of the world's best hospitals. It also provided them with a broad interdisciplinary approach to their studies while facilitating intensive interaction with the Harvard medical faculty and students.
The students, Asma Mohammad Al Harmoudi and Eman Ali Al Ali, attended the programme at Kessler Health Education Library, part of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where they had an opportunity to present the Arabic translation of the book Mayo Clinic on Diabetes during the BookTalk Programme.
Other students, including Asma Ahmad Al Ali and Asma Adel Al Nuami, who are currently pursuing a degree in medical laboratory technology at SWC, enrolled in the Blood Bank programme at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), while Nada Murad Al Beloushi and Alya Mohsen Al Hossani acquired the latest updates on innovations in Health Information Management techniques at MGH.
Dr Zahra Baalawi, director of education, HMSDC, said: "These young women were exposed to expert training in their respective fields, and have brought back knowledge and skill to the region."
