A to Z ... more letters

Recent articles have generated so much feedback, mostly positive but also some negs (natch!), that I just got to get straight on to it.

Recent articles have generated so much feedback, mostly positive but also some negs (natch!), that I just got to get straight on to it.

Ms Malavika obviously tuned right into my frequency as it seems that my articulation of Happiness was exactly what she was thinking herself but was unable to gather all of her thoughts into a cohesive stream. So chuffed was Ms M that she claims that "you actually saved me from being another of Paulo Coelho's Veronica". I am totally unaware of what I saved her from actually (and if it was necessarily a good thing!) but I take it as a compliment. Her final thought was that "to understand is better than to love"... I just hope that I have a world full of wild, passionate understanding!

There were more and more questions about how I got this wonderful assignment writing for Friday. Firstly, and one thing that I advocate to all of you, I put myself forward to the editor and offered my services. I always say that you won't win a raffle without buying a ticket, so I have always bought lots of tickets and thrust them into the tombolas of whatever I wanted to do.

There's also a huge element of luck, but I have always found that my luck seems to improve the harder I work. I take this philosophy into all areas of my life. If I am interested in meeting someone for perceived professional or personal ends, then I break the ice and I take the chance. Like I always say, if I saw Hollywood vixen Eva Mendes in a club, I would stroll up and try to start a conversation with her. What's the worst that can happen... apart from her saying "please go away or I am calling security". Except from the beating I might get handed by her bodyguards, that's the only real pain that I might suffer... and that's not a bad gamble if the jackpot is that me and Eva start hanging on red carpets!

On that point, that would make me a real celebrity and maybe I would become aloof and distant. What really surprises me, and I find it most charming and humbling by the way, is that so many of you see me as something different from you guys. It's lovely and shows the power of the organisation that I write for I guess, but I really find it surprising. I truly appreciate all the love and questions and thoughts that you share with me, and I try as much as my time allows to get back personally to everyone who takes the time to write in and attach a personal e-mail. That's the deal as far as I see it.

One of the avid readers and writers is Ms Sudha, who chided me for the poor grammar in my writing.

I make no excuses for that actually, I just try to focus on whatever it is that I am trying to articulate, and if colouring that up means that my grammar has to slide, then that's a trade-off I am happy to make. But at least my 'sppellling' is good though, huh!

On a connected point, many have commented on my wayward style, and the fact that I tend to jump off towards weird tangents. It's a love-hate split on that one, but one supporter Shian recognises that trait as one that she possesses. Shian explains, "I have so many thoughts in my head sometimes that I skip a beat trying to put them together in one sensible piece."

I luckily don't feel the pressure of having to produce one sensible piece, in fact, my objective is to produce a totally non-sensible piece, and let all you guys make of it what you will. Shian warmed to my proposal of adopting the title New Dubyans for all of us who now call Dubai our home... be interested if anyone else has alternative suggestions. How
about Doo-Bies?

Until next time ...

Penpal-ingly yours
