Dubai

I am guessing that almost every resident in Dubai owns a vehicle of some sort. And people tend to park their cars wherever they can find a free parking space. Many park in free parking zones, such as the sandy plots, but it’s never done properly.

Although the authorities in Dubai do their best in regularly issuing fines to car owners for their absurd parking, many still continue the legacy. I frequently pass through the Al Nahda area and come across a free parking space located just behind a popular shopping mall.

In May 2014, I accidentally came across a car parked in this deserted area. The reason I was surprised was that the car didn’t have a number plate nor any registration sticker on the windshield. I ignored it for that moment thinking that it may be here for a day or two, since I had previously come across a similar instance on Al Wahda Street, in Sharjah and the car was moved after a few days.

However, five months have passed and the said car is still parked in the deserted area, unmoved and now extremely dirty. It is ruining the appearance of the city.

Although, I don’t own a car and mostly utilise the services of public transport, as part of the emirate we are all equally responsible for its image. Owning a car is good and comes worthy many a times, but we also need to be responsible for its maintenance. We need to raise awareness about such people who desert their cars and hinder the beauty of Dubai.

I noticed a few days ago that anoher car is parked in the same place, but this one has a number plate so I’m not sure if it is indeed abandoned. In addition, the garbage in the area also needs to be cleared to add to the efforts of making Dubai beautiful.

I hope the authorities will take the necessary actions.
