Abu Dhabi: Ninety-seven children of Emirati women married to foreigners were granted citizenship on Tuesday by the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs, Abu Dhabi (GDRFA).
The children granted the citizenship were included in the federal decree issued by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Brigadier Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi, general director of citizenship, said that the 97 children of Emirati mothers have met the necessary conditions and therefore were granted Emirati citizenship.
Al Rashidi handed the 97 eligible citizens their family books and citizenship certificates at a ceremony held in the Naturalisation, Residency and Ports Affairs Club in Abu Dhabi.
He stressed the importance of abiding by the constitution and adhering to the laws, regulations, and norms of the country, as well as leading by example as good citizens.
The newly naturalised citizens thanked the President and expressed their gratitude for being granted the citizenship, explaining how it will impact and facilitate their social and professional lives significantly.
Al Rashidi praised the President in supporting all UAE citizens, emphasising on the importance of social cohesion and solidarity of families, which significantly contributes to stability, prosperity, and development of the country, and reflects the distinctive and outstanding status that Emirati women have in society in getting their rights.
