With a bigger better, high definition screen, Samsung unveiled its latest flagship, the Galaxy S8, on Wednesday in New York.

The unpacking of the new S8 and S8+ comes after rigorous and much-vaunted tests of its batteries, aimed to dispel users' fears and get past last year's humiliating withdrawal of the fire-prone Note 7s.

As Samsung, the world's biggest smartphone maker, unveiled the S8 and S8+, tech insiders said it trumps the iPhone in a number of ways.

The claims cannot me immediate verified. The new phones are not out in the market yet, but here goes some of the claims:

1. Screen: The Galaxy S8 boasts some of the largest wrap-around screens ever made. The S8 has Quad HD definition, while only the iPhone 7 Plus has 1090P definition. S8 has a much taller screen since Samsung removed the home button from the S8.

2. Iris and facial scanner: Samsung is taking phone security further by adding iris and facial scanning technology. The iPhone only has it Touch ID, which Samsung also has

3. Charging capabilities: Samsung's latest flagship, the Galaxy S8, has USB-C fast charging, which is reportedly sinificantly faster than Apple's Lightning connector.

4. Expandable storage: The S8 has a MicroSD card slot, allowing for additional storage of up to 256GB. iPhone users are stuck with 32GB, 128GB or 256GB.

5. Third-party browsers: You can't change your iPhone's default browser like you can on on the S8 — all links opened from an Apple app will always open in Safari. S8, being an Android phone, can run Chrome, Firefox, Dolphin, Puffin, etc.

6. Headphone jack: Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7, while Samsung kept the jack in the S8, which means you won't have to buy a dongle or new wireless headphones.

These are the Galaxy S8 features we know so far from the Wednesday 'unpacking':

  • 'Infinity' display (full-frontal edge-to-edge screen)

  • Bixby, a new interface on Samsung devices, to rival Apple's Siri

  • Ability to pair with the Gear VR with Controller or the new Gear 360.

  • Face recognition, iris scanner, Samsung DeX, Camera.
